1. Who we are

Band Trainer (https://bandtrainer.net) is a free music practice website made by a band director. In this policy, "we" and "us" means Band Trainer. If you have questions, email [email protected].

2. What we collect

You don't need an account to use Band Trainer, and we don't ask for your name, email address, age, or school. Your practice progress, settings, streaks, and cookie choice are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. This information is never sent to us, and you can delete it at any time (see section 6).

Like every website, our hosting provider automatically receives technical information when you load a page, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page requested. It uses this to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We don't use it to identify you.

3. Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads, which help keep Band Trainer free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Because many of our visitors are students, including children under 13, we tell Google not to show personalized ads to anyone on Band Trainer. Ads you see here are based on the page's content, not on a profile of you. Google may still use cookies or similar technologies to limit how often you see an ad, detect fraud, and measure performance, but only if you allow it (see section 4).

4. Cookies and local storage

  • Local storage (always on): saves your progress, settings, and cookie choice on your device. It's needed for the site to remember you and is never shared.
  • Advertising cookies (only if you accept): set by Google to show and measure non-personalized ads. If you reject them, you'll still see ads, but no advertising cookies are stored.

5. Children and students

Band Trainer is designed for middle and high school band students, and some visitors are under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. The site has no accounts, sign-up forms, chat, or ways for students to share information with each other. We ask Google to treat the site as child-directed and to serve only non-personalized ads.

Teachers may use Band Trainer in class without collecting any student information. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we'll delete it.

6. Your choices

7. Data retention

We don't keep any practice data, because it stays on your device. If you email us, we keep the message only as long as needed to reply and follow up, then delete it.

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted on the home page.
